South Central Chapter Association of Professional Genealogists
Organized in 1979, the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG) is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit that serves as an umbrella organization for the diverse roles in genealogy. The more than 2,000 US and international members include family historians, professional researchers, librarians, archivists, writers, editors, consultants, indexers, instructors, lecturers, columnists, booksellers, publishers, computer specialists, and geneticists.
The South Central Chapter is a regional subgroup of APG. Our members represent the broad spectrum of genealogical pursuits covered by the APG umbrella.
Membership in APG is open to any person or institution willing to support the objectives and the APG Code of Ethics. Membership in the South Central Chapter is open to any APG member. Our members are located primarily in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Arkansas.
The South Central Chapter supports the objectives of APG:
To provide education and support for those engaged in genealogical business pursuits
To engage in activities which improve access, facilitate research, and preserve records used in the fields of genealogy and local history
To promote awareness of activities and/or laws which may affect genealogical and historical research
To facilitate collaboration among members
To promote professional standards in the field of genealogy; and
To promote awareness of, and interest in, professional genealogical services
